What Size TV Should I Buy?
Everyone thinks that the bigger the TV, the better the TV. Well, that is not always the case. Finding the right size TV for your room is more important than resolution, widescreen capacity, viewing angle, and price combined. While we were taught from a young age that sitting too close to the TV is bad for your eyes, we find ourselves faced with much larger TVs and the same size rooms. Finding a happy medium is crucial to getting the most from your HDTV purchase.
There is nothing worse than sitting 4 feet from a 52 inch screen. It is awful and you will hate every second of it. So, here are some quick numbers to help you find the best fit.
For a 20 to 27 inch display, allow at least 5 feet between your eyeballs and the TV. For a 32 to 37 inch display, keep those optic wonders at least 8 feet from the screen. For the larger sizes of TVs from 42 to 50 inches, please do yourself a favor and allow at least 12 feet to 16 feet between yourself and the TV. These larger TVs honestly look best from further away.
If you sit closer to these large screens, you will damage your eyes. Your eyes cannot physically focus on that large of an area, so you will be wasting your money on a screen size you don't need AND you will get massive headaches every time you watch TV. This is seriously one of the most important aspects of purchasing a TV.
If you don't have the minimum distance for the size TV you are looking for, please please please do yourself a favor and go for the next size down. You may not think a foot or two will make a difference, but you will once you get the TV home. Measure first, then purchase...then enjoy! |
