HDTV Components and Cables

Ah, yes. Cables. This can be the most confusing part of purchasing your HDTV. Some stores and manufacturers include all the necessary component cables for that HD sharpness.

Some don't. It is very important to know exactly what you need or want before you go shopping.

Depending on the size TV you want (and can accomodate), the resolution you want, and the clarity you want, there are several different cables to choose from and even more HD services you can get.

If you are shopping for an HDTV, you obviously want a nice picture. If you want a nice picture, you obviously have or will be getting an HD receiver or service for your TV. Depending on what service you get, you could be looking for either an DCI cable or an HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is the cable to end all cables. It is capable of transmitting the highest quality signal for the sharpest pictures. It just costs more than DCI or VGA cables.

What cable you need also depends on what you will be using your HDTV for. If you want to use it with your desktop computer, the picture may look better with an HDMI than with your standard VGA cable. The problem here is that you must have an HDMI input on both your TV and your desktop.
